netplay (and accesibly) oriented-wise, I mean.Īs I mentioned earlier and in my previous post, my interest lies in Mednafen's netcode, which has provided myself and my small group of friends with a solid experience with virtually no desynchs whatsoever. I have not extensively tested the emulator with the roughly 400+ multiplayer games available for the console (combining all regions), but I believe that it would be the perfect compromise for SNES emulation on Mednafen.

with the sole exception of games that made exclusive use of the Super FX chip (where FPS hung around 30 FPS) and High Res mode (Mana series). I found myself trying this very particular version of your emulator today and found (still, through some tinkering) that most multiplayer games run at a satisfactory 60 FPS.
Bsnes core upgrade#
In light of this unfortunate circumstance, would it be possible to upgrade the current core to BSNES v070, adding the (personally) very much needed "Performance" profile with it? I was unaware that such conflict existed. ZSNES is GPL, but was discontinued six and a half years ago, and only runs on a single architecture.Īll other SNES emulators are closed source.
Bsnes core license#
This license is incompatible with the GPL, which is what Mednafen uses. Snes9X is only available under a non-commercial license, as is MESS' SNES emulation core. Thank you in advance for reading this post, and thank you once more for this incredible emulator. I would just like to say that if you added a faster SNES core (based on SNES9x), it would really make it my definitive SNES emulator for netplay, since the alternatives are either too limited (ZSNES and RetroArch being P2P) or flawed (ZSNES and SNES9k being too old, with the latter depending on a crooked library). Especially so, since people can drop in and out at any time, and savestates can be easily created and applied to all clients simultaneously.īut I wouldn't want to bore you listing features you're very well aware of.

I'm EXTREMELY satisfied with the netcode your emulator offers, having already enjoyed several delightful 5 player matches in Bomberman '94 in the past week, and nearing completion of Dungeon Explorer with 3-5 regular people I play with over the internet who are scattered across the globe. In the same vein as having a "fast" core for PC-Engine/TurboGrafx 16 emulation, I would like it if you could incorporate the latest version of SNES9x as the "fast" option for SNES emulation. While I'm not against the accuracy that the current BSNES core supplies for Mednafen, I speak for myself when I say that I believe it to be too resource demanding.
